My Top 10 Halloween Movies and TV Shows

Now that we’re officially in October and it is now Halloween season, it’s time to watch some spooky-themed movies and tv shows! One thing though, I’m not really a horror movie/TV fan. I usually peek out through my fingers whenever there’s a scary part and I’d rather watch with all the lights on. But, I still like to get into the holiday spirit! Here is my top 10  Halloween movies and TV list!

Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is a classic Disney Halloween movie for me! It’s got Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker who are all hilarious. I especially love the party scene when they sing “I Put a Spell on You”.

FreeForm Channel will be premiering a Hocus Pocus 25th Anniversary Halloween Bash on October 20th. Don’t miss it!

I was late to the game and started watching Stranger Things about a year after it came out. I initially thought it would be super scary, but this show has become one of my favorites. It’s so incredibly nostalgic and based in 1983 in Indiana and focuses on a group of friends who work to find their friend who goes missing near a top-secret government laboratory.

If you love classic ’80s movies, like E.T and the Goonies, then this show is for you. It includes a ton of references to older movies and pop culture.

Practical Magic

I loved Practical Magic so much when it came out! It’s got Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters who are also witches. They are under a curse that states any man who falls in love with them is doomed. I loved this movie since it had a love story and magic…who can go wrong with that! I’m such a huge fan of Sandra Bullock and this is an all-time favorite of mine.

Addams Family

You can’t have a Halloween tv/movie marathon without The Addams Family movies! These movies are fun, kooky, and campy which make for a great non-scary Halloween movie. I personally prefer The Addams Family Values, but love both movies. FreeForm is playing the Addams Family several times in October- check it out!

The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is definitely a Halloween must- it’s a Tim Burton movie after all! In classic Disney fashion, there are catchy songs (check out “This is Halloween”). There’s great songs, a romance, and an interesting plot that involves kidnapping Santa Claus! It’s currently available to watch on Hulu and will also be on FreeForm.

These aren’t your normal characters from the Archie Comics. This show took me by surprise how dark it got and I loved it! The characters are dark and twisted, the plot twists are insane,  and there are tons of surprises lurking around Riverdale. Netflix has Seasons 1-2 and season 3 is about to premiere on the CW on October 10th. So start binging now!!

The Craft

This movie came out in the mid-’90s and became a cult hit for good reason! The movie is about four outcasts who dabble in witchcraft and try to use it to their advantage but have very bad consequences.  I remember watching this movie and being scared a bit but overall the movie was so good at the time! This is definitely a Halloween-themed movie to watch!

Scream Poster

This is probably the only slasher-horror movie I will ever like. It has a ton of teen actors from the ’90s and was actually funny. I think this movie has great lines, a smart plot, and is scary (but not too scary). I remember being on the edge of my seat during the first 10 minutes and wanting to stop watching, but I’m glad I finished this movie.  It’s a classic. Check it out!

What would Halloween be without zombies? This show is based on Liv, a medical examiner-turned zombie, who eats brains at the morgue and gets visions of the victims. So she helps the police solve crimes! Who doesn’t love a fun, zombie, crime-solving show? It’s really fun and one of my favorites. This tv show will start its 5th season on the CW and all seasons are currently on Netflix.

Hotel Transylvania

This really is a cute movie with tons of great voices: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, etc. In this movie, Dracula runs a hotel where only monsters stay and humans are not allowed. A human boy discovers the hotel and falls in love with Dracula’s daughter, Mavis. It’s super sweet with a bunch of funny gags. If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted Halloween movie, this one’s for you.

As a bonus to my list, I am also waiting to check out two new series on Netflix:

Curious Creations

Just in time for Halloween, baker/model/artist Christine McConnell has a new cooking show on Netflix where she creates food based on horror and scary things….sounds interesting!

This is also based on characters from the Archie comics. I did watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but I have a feeling this is a bit darker…….

So as you can see, I have a variety of movies and tv shows that I’ll be catching up on during October! Some range from a little bit scary to not-so-scary at all.

*Did I miss any?
*Are you watching any of these too?
*Check out FreeForm’s schedule for October 201831 Nights of Halloween
